January 6th, 2010

Today is a Blind Pick Day! I went to the shelf that holds my early years collection and I randomly picked something without looking at the label. When I say early years,  it is something I collected before 1990 or so.

'Johnny's Greatest Hits'
Johnny Mathis
Side 1 and 2 Chances Are
and I especially liked No Love

'Puff, The Magic Dragon'
Happy Time Records
Side A Puff the Magic Dragon
This is of course a classic. Who couldn't love it! I loved hearing Danny Kaye do Thumbelina.
(Yes, it was a Blind pick and yes, I did listen to it! LOL)

So next I pull out Barry Manilow. After listening to such classics as Johnny and Puff I just couldn't bring myself to listen to Manilow right now. Sorry Barry. My next pick was much more condusive to my mood. I have been thinking about my daughter and this next artist is truely my favorite. The song 'Jody Girl' is not at all about my daughter except in name and she is currently in 'Katmandu'. I even sat through a concert at the Forum(one of the worst venues I have EVER attended a concert at) to see him when he came out of hiding in 2007. Thanks Barbara and Jesse for the birthday tickets!

Thanks Bob Seger for giving this rocker a chance to see you in the 2007 Face the Promise Tour.

'Beautiful Loser'
Bob Seger
Side One & 'Two Beautiful Loser', 'Jody Girl', 'Katmandu', 'Travelin' Man', 'Fine Memory'
I love this album! One of my Top Ten favorites!

So I had posted to Micheal on Facebook "What shall I listen to today? Hmm...". He retorts back..."Hendrix"...off to go search the unsorted albums. One day I hope to have the collection that is featured in the movie 'High Fidelity'.

Was shuffling through the albums to clear the scatering of albums all over my livingroom in stacks and I came through this one. It has a better version of Puff and probably the best!

'The Best of Peter, Paul and Mary
(Ten) Years Together'
Side Two & One  'Leavin' on a Jet Plane', 'Puff the Magic Dragon',' Don't Think Twice, It's Alright', 'If I had a hammer', 'Blowin' In the Wind'
Leavin' on a Jet Plane and many of the songs on this LP were written by Bob Dylan. Truely a 'Greatset of' LP. Too bad they didn't spend a nickel on the cover art.

Footnote: Must look for the Man of La Mancha Soundtrack with Richard Kiley so I can compare to the Peter O'Toole version!
